Chris Grillis, a native of Jackson, Mississippi, began his career in photography after graduating from Southern Miss in 1981 with a degree in advertising. A

semester of fundamental black and white photography and darkroom provided him with an epiphany that would spark the inspiration for his life's work.

Chris honed his technical background working as a custom darkroom tech in photo labs, managing an established portrait studio, and taking wedding and

portrait commissions on the side. In 1985 Chris joined with a partner and opened a new portrait studio which enjoyed five successful years before the two

separated to form separate businesses in 1990.

Chris' artistic eye, mastery of lighting and understanding the desires of his clients all combine to create some of the most beautiful photographic portraits in

the South.
